Douban introduced the “emergency protection mode”: Protecting users’ personal data and preventing online violence.
On March 25, in response to the special measures taken by relevant government agencies to eliminate online violence, reduce insults and defamation online, and protect users’ personal data, Douban actively improved the platform’s functions and recently introduced the “emergency protection mode” to prevent online violence.
After the emergency protection mode is activated, others can no longer pay attention to the users who have activated the protection. Strangers who are not affected by the users cannot see the content of their homepage or communicate with them directly through private messages. They can communicate via private messages only with the user’s consent. Moreover, the comments with unfriendly keywords will be hidden under the dynamic, diary and other content shared by users who have enabled the protection mode. The dynamic, diary and other content set by users as “only those concerned can reply” cannot be forwarded and collected by everyone.
