Chinese schools are using “smart telemedicine” to combat COVID-19.

Beijing Daily reported on May 11th,2020. According to the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, junior high school students and staff returning to school will be given smart thermometers to carry out smart temperature monitoring. From April 30 to May 8, the pilot work of smart temperature monitoring has been carried out in 18 schools in Fengtai District for senior three students and staff returning to school.

Similar high technology will be gradually promoted in the third grade of Beijing junior high school. From today on, Beijing has started to organize students in grade three and junior three of Fengtai, Dongcheng, Xicheng, Tongzhou, and Daxing districts, as well as returned teachers and staff, to wear smart thermometers to carry out the pilot work of smart temperature monitoring.

This morning, students in grade three of Fengtai No. 2 middle school have already put on this new “Bracelet”. At present, as a pilot area, Fengtai District takes the lead in the promotion of senior three.

“The bracelet is similar to the ordinary fitness bracelet. It uses button batteries, so it doesn’t need to be charged. The temperature of the wearer would be monitored from time to time through the sensor on the bracelet. At present, senior three automatically collects temperature measurement data twice a day.

The temperature measurement data will be shared in the cloud. Parents, schools, and relevant departments of the two episodes can monitor data through mobile apps. At present, the school has special teachers to monitor the data, and in case of any abnormality, it will immediately handle it according to the plan.

According to the Municipal Education Commission, the students can take the class as the unit, bind the information of all the students wearing the smart thermometer through the class teacher’s mobile phone, and collect the temperature information of all the students by the class teacher’s centralized clock in the classroom, and upload the information directly through the Bluetooth connection mobile app.

The students only need to wear the smart thermometer as required and do not need to use the mobile phone for operation. This will largely save students’ time and allow them to concentrate on studying.

At present, in addition to wearing bracelets, the daily traditional morning and noon inspection will still apply.
